Prayer Labyrinth
The prayer labyrinth at Miami Lakes United Methodist Church was dedicated November 12, 2000. Initially a simple rock-lined path with a few palm trees at the center it has now grown into a delightful respite for the contemplative or soul-searching individual. The labyrinth is open to all churches and people seeking a renewed relationship with God.
A prayer labyrinth is not a maze. There are no path choices to make, no dead-ends. There is one way in and one way out. Here are some general guidelines if you are unfamiliar with the concept.
Focus: Before you begin your walk, pause at the entrance and turn your heart and mind to God. Offer up an acknowledgement in the form of a nod, bow, or other meaningful gesture.
Awareness: Be conscious of the experience. Walk with purpose and consider the process. When you arrive at the center, stay there. Use that time to reflect. When it feels appropriate leave by retracing your steps.
Exit: Before going back into the world, turn and face the entrance again. Make a gesture of completion such as a bow, or say “Amen.”
Reflect: Don’t let your experience end there. Think back on what you felt and record it in your journal or express it artistically.
Come back often.
